Representation of Colonel Fitz

The character you is being represented is Colonel Fitzs. Throughout the film he is seen as a dark character and the villian of the film according to Vladimir Propp’s narrative theory. We can see he is a dark and bad character throughout the film because he physically abuses his son, Rikki, and looks like he has something to hide because of his own room in the house which no one but him is allowed into.
In a particular scene where Colonel Fitz is waiting inside Rikki’s room for him to come back from Lester’s house, after a drug deal. When Rikki arrives in his bedroom we can immediately see that there is a bad atmosphere because the director has used light in the scene to portray Fitz’s personality e.g. on this particular scene he is sitting in the corner of Rikki’s room and the room is very dark. Also the blinds in the room are closed and the light which is shining through looks like bars, which could connote that their house is like a prison. Also in the scene he pushes Rikki to the ground, and looks over him whilst he is on the floor, this could connote that Colonel Fitz is at a higher authority than Rikki, and Fitz belives that he is a better standard that Rikki. Also in this scene there are 21 cuts, the directer has done this to show that the fight is a fast past. Aswell as that the cuts are fairley short this could connote how short Colonel Fitz temper is.
Throughout the film we never see colonel Fitz smile or show any signs of happines, this evidences would add to the fact that he is a angry person and also it would show that he is not having a happy life.
The Representation is created for Colonel Fitz this way because the director wanted to portray Colonel Fitz as the bad person in the film, so the directed used all the mise en scene to make the audience fell intimadated by him.
Older People and more old fashioned people might admire Colonel because they also belive in his values and rules.Whereas the younger generation audience might dislike Colonel Fitz because he is a very strict parent and allows no freedom to Rikki, he also beats Rikki up which is seen as wrong.
