I have choosen to analyse the opening scene of the Tv Drama "The Bill". i have choosen to analyse this tv drama because only recently the opening title has been change and made more modern, so i thought it would be intresting to look at the new type of title.
Firstly i can see it starts with a establishing shot of the city London. The audience can see from this shot that it is shot and based in london, because of famouse landmarks such as the millenium dome and the river thames.
The next shot is another establishing shot, but this time the camera ends up focusing on a police car. The audience know the camera main focus is on the police car because the camera follows it. Also know the audience get a vague idea of what the drama mabye about by seeing the police car they could get the idea that it may be about crime.
The next shot is of a reflection of the police car against the side of shops and windows on the street. This emphasises on how fast the police car is going because we can judge the speed of the moving police car from the surrondings. The audience may now feel that the police car is rushing to an emegancy. The music also emphasises the speed of the car because the music speeds up on this certain shot. The audience may also feel a bit of mystery because still they havent saw who is driving the police car.
After that shot it goes on to a high shot of the police car entering a tunnel. The tunnel is dark which could connote that the police car is entering danger.
The next shot is a point of view shot from both passenger and driver of the police car and it shows them driving through the tunnel. The driver and the passenger are stil not visible to the audience so the audience will still get the feel of mystery.
After this shot it goes into a mid shot of the police car but with emphasis on the blue lights turning on on top of it. Also in this shot we can see that the lighting has changed and it is now night time and fairley dark so the audience now get the feel of the two colours black and blue which is of course the colours of the police. This give the audience a further clew on what the genre of the drama shall be about.
There's not much i can comment about the next shot although it gives up the idea that the police car is in a rush because it is going fast.
The shot after that one is a point of view shot from the passenger of the police car and it focuses on some men sitting outside what looks like a burger bar, the shot slightly zooms into these men. This could connote that the police have a close eye on the public and look closer into things.
The next couple of shots are very fast but then goo further to show the title of the film "the bill" which are show in big white bold letters and with the black background so the audience still get the feel of the blue and black theme.
I can see in the introduction theres roughly around ten different shots in twenty seconds, these shot speed up throughout the intro aswell as the music.
The music is a very dramatic source of music and is also tense whih gives the feel on a police mans/womans job.
I have also noticed that the shots have started of with a light lightning then all of a sudden turns dark this could also connote a police's job because their job can just turn from a nice happy day to a bad day in a snap of a second
